Countdown to kickoff: 101 things I love about the Oregon Ducks

On September 3, the Oregon Ducks will begin their 2011 football season. To get through the dog days of summer, I’m listing 101 cool, random things I love about the Ducks, one per day until kickoff in Dallas. In no particular order.

#7: LaMichael James: Statement.

Are you one of those people who thinks Stanford was better than Oregon at the end of the 2010 season?

LaMike has three words for you: Fast. Don’t. Lie.

Seriously, did Stanford’s defense magically get quicker by the end of the season? I’m sure that 49-10 run the Ducks went on to end the game was just a fluke.

Hey, by this time next week, college football will be back! How cool is that?

#16: OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Sounds like a swarm of killer bees. Or being locked inside a chainsaw.

#17: Jeff Maehl for two.

What a moment. These videos are just raw, unfiltered love.

#23: Puddles. On a Harley.

The Sooner Schooner. The Ramblin’ Wreck. Tommy Trojan and Traveler. Ralphie. War Eagle. Chief Osceola.

Not bad. Not bad.

But our mascot is a giant duck. And he rides into Autzen Stadium on a freakin’ Harley.

We win.

#26: Partying on the field at Reser Stadium.

Nothing quite like being there for a really big road win. You’re on enemy soil, outnumbered and outgunned.

But if it all goes well, by the end there’s more of you than there are of them.

#45: Chanting “GO! DUCKS!” at Autzen.

It’s nice pre-game message to the opposing team. Yeah, it’s loud in here. And yes, we’re gonna do this all damn day.

#52: Cliffy gets two against New Mexico.

“What did you today, Cliff?”

“Oh, you know, just returned two punts for touchdowns in a D-1 football game. No big deal.”

#53: Cliff Harris owns Andrew Luck.

Andrew Luck is a Heisman-caliber quarterback…as long as Cliff Harris isn’t on the field.

Oh, and Autzen is really, really loud.

#54: Cliffy lights a fire in Pullman.

Midway through the second quarter in Pullman, the Ducks were clinging to a one-point lead over the Cougars. Kenjon Barner had been wheeled off in an ambulance, and Oregon was out of sorts. When you’ve got Oregon on the ropes, there’s one thing you don’t want to do…

Don’t punt it to Cliff.
